Pupil report: IB Trip to Weymouth to spark creativity for CAS projects

1 October 2026

A group of our International Baccalaureate (IB) pupils went to Weymouth at the end of September to spark the start of our CAS projects.

We arrived at Weymouth Harbour and took a leisurely 15-minute walk to board the RIB boat tour at 09:45. The three RIBs took us on an informative wildlife and history tour of the harbour. We met the family of grey seals but unfortunately the resident dolphin did not appear.

After an exhilarating and fun boat tour of Portland and its historic sites and monuments, we were brought back to the harbour via the beach, Nothe Fort and the RNLI Life Boat Station to ‘Catch’, a sustainable seafood restaurant. Lunch was delicious, with a starting presentation about how Catch came to be and its direct relationship with the UN Sustainability Goal ‘Life below water’ SDG14, and how they put it into practice every day. In the afternoon, we arrived at Sea Life, and enjoyed exploring the exhibits and enclosures as well as buying snacks and souvenirs.

This trip was particularly interesting when exploring the sustainability of Catch and its methods of fishing. As a group, we looked at the history of Weymouth’s harbours, as well as how the town supports its lifeguards and small businesses. Going to all these places and learning about them gave us a lot of CAS project ideas, like fundraising, training programmes and even beach cleanups. This would also make us directly involved with SDG14: Life Below Water.

The trip was educational as well as incredibly fun and really helped us with the foundation of our future CAS projects.
