Last week, Bryanston welcomed both prep and primary school pupils for two exciting D&T Challenge Days, bringing together young designers, engineers and problem-solvers for a hands-on creative challenge.
A total of 76 Year 5 pupils took part in the events, with 48 pupils from prep schools and 28 pupils from local primary schools joining us. Visiting schools included, Farleigh, Yarrells School, Bryanston Prep, Cheam, Highfield & Brookham, Walhampton, Ballard, Salisbury Cathedral School, Pimperne, Shillingstone, Blandford St Mary and Milldown!
The challenge saw pupils design, build and test their own ‘Impact Buggies’, with one very important mission – to protect an egg. Working in teams, pupils had to think carefully about structure, materials, balance and impact protection, before putting their creations to the ultimate test. The highlight of the day was the infamous Bryanston ‘Ramp of Doom’, where each buggy was sent down the ramp to see whether their designs could survive the impact and keep the egg intact.
The pupils also were expected to produce a 2nd buggy which needed to be really neatly assembled and decorated.
The day encouraged teamwork, creativity and practical problem-solving, while giving pupils a chance to experience design and technology in a fun way in Bryanston’s leading facilities with its specialist staff.
Chris Mills, Head of Design & Technology, said: “It was fantastic to welcome so many pupils to Bryanston for our D&T Challenge Days. It was wonderful to see everyone throwing themselves into the challenge with such enthusiasm. A huge thank you to all the pupils, staff and visiting schools who got involved and helped make the days such a success.”
Congratulations to every pupil who took part and thank you to all the visiting schools for joining us.
