Bryanston athletes enjoyed near-perfect conditions at the Dorset County Athletics Championships on Saturday 13 June at the newly refurbished King’s Park Stadium in Bournemouth. Competing under clear skies with a welcome cooling breeze throughout the day, the team delivered an impressive set of performances, combining excellent results with outstanding team spirit.
Seni P secured a convincing victory in the shot put, winning by a comfortable margin, and later produced a strong long jump performance with a distance of 5.33m. Her 300m at the end of the day saw an incredibly tight race with her opponent finding a narrow lead in the final 30m.
In the middle-distance events, Paul R finished third in the Intermediate Boys’ 3000m, while Wilbur T produced one of the performances of the day, finishing second in the 800m and setting a new personal best by three seconds. Wilbur T then went on to win the 300m final in our final event of the afternoon.
The sprint events provided plenty of excitement. Campbell C placed fifth in the 100m final in 12.1 seconds. Myles M and Fabian G both qualified for the 100m final, where Myles finished fourth in 11.9 seconds and Fabian sixth in 12.4 seconds. In his stronger event, Fabian also qualified second fastest in his heat for the 200m before finishing fifth in the final.
In the senior sprint finals, Oliver GH claimed third place in the 100m (11.5 seconds) and 4th in the 200m, while Haz LW finished fourth in the 100m with a time of 11.7 seconds. Iris C impressed in a highly competitive 80m hurdles field, placing fourth in 13.9 seconds while Ellie C recorded 4.42m in the long jump. Over at the high jump, Bertie B from Bryanston Prep secured a comfortable 1.40m but could not find the spring to clear a PB of 1.50m.
With great results across the board, the team now eagerly await the outcome of the selection for the South West Championships in Exeter on Saturday 20 June.
