What a magical finale to the term it has been in the Prep Boarding House. Over the past two weeks, the festive spirit has taken over completely, and the boarders have embraced every moment with their trademark enthusiasm, good humour and wonderful sense of community. From talent shows to tree decorating, games nights to Christmas feasts, these final days have been packed with fun.
We began Week 12 by transforming the house into a twinkling winter haven as the boarders decorated the Christmas tree together. Between bursts of table tennis, JB Hall games and some brilliant talent show performances in Mrs Green’s much-loved Tuesday Talent Night, the week was as fun and varied as ever. Ryan’s Moving Game Night brought high-energy fun to the JB Hall, while Friday’s Year 5 & 6 Friday Night Boarding Special was a standout highlight, filled with pool inflatables, Danish longball, tropical themes and a cosy Moana 2 movie night complete with popcorn and hot chocolate.
The weekend continued the festive mood with the Prep School Christmas Fair and the Gymkhana, before finishing with a relaxed supper and the ever-popular Tesco trip.
Our final week of term was full of festive fun. On Monday, the boarders enjoyed an incredible Christmas feast prepared by our brilliant catering team – roast beef, Yorkshire puddings and all the trimmings – before gathering around the Christmas tree for an evening of carols and a festive film. It was the perfect way to begin our last few days together.
Tuesday brought a lovely mixture of treats and calm, while some of the boarders headed up to the café for a special end-of-term outing, others enjoyed an evening of board games back in house, including Top Trumps, Dobble and a fiercely contested round of Yahtzee. Packing may have started… but not at the expense of fun!
Wednesday saw one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the term – our Boarders’ Christmas Party. The laughter was nonstop as the children took part in the famous Chocolate Game, complete with fancy dress outfits, frantic dice-rolling, and the challenge of unwrapping chocolate with a knife and fork through multiple layers of Christmas paper. The excitement only grew during the Flower Pudding Game, where steady hands, careful slicing and plenty of anticipation led to a hilarious scramble to retrieve the hidden coin.
Thursday, our final night in house, was a beautifully calm and cosy end to the term. The boarders curled up for Christmas films, sang carols and simply enjoyed being together.
Looking Ahead
It has been a truly wonderful end to an already busy, joyful term. The boarders have shown such kindness, independence and team spirit, and the atmosphere in the house these past two weeks has been a testament to the strength of our boarding community.
As we look ahead to next term, planning is already well underway to ensure our weekend activities and evening sessions are as exciting, varied and jam-packed with fun as ever. We cannot wait to welcome the children back and see what new memories the next term will bring.
Wishing all our boarders and their families a very Merry Christmas and a restful, happy holiday.
