Year 7s become detectives for exciting and immersive BryMystery morning

3 July 2026

Last Friday, Year 7 enjoyed an exciting and immersive BryMysterymorning at the Senior School, where they became detectives tasked with solving the mysterious murder of Lady Portman.

After travelling back in time to 1920s Dorset, the pupils discovered that Lady Portman had been murdered in the drawing room of the Portman residence. Having been invited to the supper, the Year 7 detectives found themselves at the centre of the investigation and were challenged to uncover the truth behind the crime.

Working collaboratively in teams, the pupils examined a range of evidence, including witness statements and written correspondence. They used their comprehension, inference and analytical skills to evaluate the evidence, identify inconsistencies and develop theories about the events leading up to the murder. Each team created a detailed clue board, a time-line of events and an investigative report to present their findings.

The morning concluded with each group presenting its case to the rest of the year, carefully explaining who they believed was responsible and justifying their conclusions with evidence gathered throughout the investigation. The presentations demonstrated excellent teamwork, critical thinking and communication skills, as students confidently defended their theories and responded to questions from their peers.

BryMystery was a fantastic opportunity for Year 7 to apply their English skills in a creative and engaging way. The pupils embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, showing impressive collaboration, problem-solving and detective work throughout the day. Thank you to Mrs Matthews for running and organising such a fantastic immersive morning thoroughly enjoyed by all.
