Congratulations to our brilliant D and C pupils (Year 9 and Year 10s) for representing Bryanston at the Marlborough College Model United Nations Conference on 19 June.
Selections to take part were based on recommendations from tutors and teachers, as well as an application email from each pupil.
Model United Nations, a simulation of the United Nations, is an exciting co-curricular programme that focuses on improving public speaking confidence, teaching the art of negotiation, and importantly, getting pupils to research and appreciate an array of different nations’ perspectives.
Bryanston pupils represented one of two delegations, Ireland and Denmark and engaged in lively debate as part of one of ten ‘Committees’, all of which dealt with important political, ethical and humanitarian issues. Pupils debated these topics based on their country’s viewpoints and against other schools.
Bryanston MUN Coordinator Arabella de Steiger Khandwala commented: “Our MUNers did absolutely brilliantly! There were keynote speeches from the former Head of MI5 and Davina McCall and a full flag waving ceremony to finish!
“Our team got involved in a high level of debate amongst some very experienced delegates and everyone spoke up at least once. Particular mentions go to Oz G and Chloe H, both of whom spoke in the daunting General Assembly.
“Camille S submitted, presented and defended a clause in his second language, and Teddy H should also be commended, for holding his own as the only D in the group.”
