GCSE pupils enjoy academic and cultural adventure around the Bay of Naples

21 October 2026

From Friday 16 October to Monday 19 October, thirty-one Year 10 (Cs) and Year 11 (Bs) kick-started their half-term break by embarking on an academic and cultural adventure around the Bay of Naples.

This was primarily an opportunity to see for real the sources from Pompeii and Herculaneum that they study in GCSE Classical Civilisation, but beyond this, also a chance to walk in the footsteps of the ancients, and be inspired by the wonderfully well-preserved cities that were destroyed in the 79 AD eruption of Vesuvius.

Pupils embraced the opportunity to hike up Mount Vesuvius itself, take in the stunning scenery of the area, enjoy the wonderfully contrasting feel of bustling Naples and peaceful Sorrento, and of course experience the wonderful Neapolitan cuisine – pizza, pasta and gelato aplenty!

This is an educational visit that the School runs biennially, alongside its legendary Sixth Form Trip to Greece.
