D pupils deliver haunting production of The Ocean at the End of the Lane

23 June 2026

Bryanston’s D (Year 9) pupils delivered a powerful and atmospheric production of The Ocean at the End of the Lane, bringing to life a spellbinding story of memory, magic and the hidden fears of childhood.

Performed in the EEMR, the production followed a man returning to his childhood home, where he is transported back to a time when he was a lonely boy who befriended the extraordinary Lettie Hempstock. As the story unfolded, what began as a simple friendship soon became something far darker, with an otherworldly force entering his world and taking shape within his own home.

The pupils captured the play’s haunting mood balancing moments of childhood innocence with the growing unease and tension at the heart of the story. There were impressive performances across the cast, with pupils showing real maturity in tackling a story that is both emotionally complex and deeply atmospheric.

As a D year group production, the play also marked a fitting moment at the end of the pupils’ first year at Bryanston.

Congratulations to everyone involved, as well as the staff and production team who supported them in bringing the play to the stage.
