Every pupil at Bryanston Prep School, from Nursery through to Year 8, has helped raise £4,000 for School in a Bag (SIAB), funding one packed bag for every child on the school’s roll.
School in a Bag delivers essential supplies to children left without basics by poverty, disaster, or displacement. The charity was founded by Luke Simons following the loss of his brother in the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami, and each £25 rucksack contains carefully chosen items, pencils, exercise books, a bowl, water bottle, spork, and toothbrush, designed to give children in crisis the tools to move their lives forward.
The fundraising drive began after SIAB representatives visited the school at the start of the Spring term, sharing the story behind the charity and explaining what a single bag can mean to a child with nothing. Pupils set themselves a personal target of £25 each and got to work selling homemade lemonade, helping neighbours with gardening, busking, and taking part in sponsored cycling events. The school’s Gardening ECA Group contributed by selling homegrown strawberries, jalapeños, tomatoes, and chive plants to Bryanston families.
Once the target was reached, pupils packed every rucksack themselves.
Dominic Floyd, Head of Bryanston Prep, said: “We are so proud to have hit our target – one bag for every pupil in the school. Thank you to all the parents and the whole Bryanston community for your encouragement and support. Through their efforts, our children have made a real difference to so many others in desperate need around the world.”
SIAB operates across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and beyond, reaching children who may otherwise have no access to education or basic everyday items. To date, the charity has delivered hundreds of thousands of bags worldwide.
