The role of running the academic life of the school, previously referred to as Director of Studies, has always been a broad one at Bryanston. It is, in short, to be the right hand to the Head in terms of complete responsibility for delivering matters academic to staff, pupils, and parents.
Key to the success of this role is the ability to deal day to day with the Heads of Department and Heads of Faculty, an ability to "own" the timetable, and to direct the teaching and learning in the school both towards punctiliously fulfilling requirements of the curriculum and examinations, and also appropriately developing that curriculum to offer excellence to all parties.
This is an exciting opportunity and one which will allow for considerable personal and professional development for the successful candidate. It is well suited to someone who envisages him or herself as a Head in the next five to ten years.
We are keen to have a Deputy Head Academic in place for this September but not at the expense of appointing the right candidate.
