Torrential rain doesn't stop paddlers in Gold Canoeing expedition

The two groups started in Glasbury and made their way down to Monmouth. Following the beautiful River Wye through Hay, Ross and the majestic cliffs of Symonds Yat, the scenery was fabulous.

A tough 42km, on a slow river due to the lack of rain, set the expedition off on day one. The following 35km days were slightly easier, although the flow of the river was not as great as we had hoped. The last day saw the groups waking at 3am for a 4:30am start to ensure they could reach the finish in time. The rains eventually came and both groups were suitably drenched in a torrential downpour for the morning! The adventure of the early start, however, and the excitement of the anticipated finish gave the pupils strength and they arrived at Monmouth with smiles and a huge sense of achievement.

A fantastic effort all round, with some exhausted bodies and a very quiet bus journey home!
