Fantastic times achieved in the Ken Baily races

The cross country season began last week as Bryanston hosted the 60th Ken Baily races.

The Ken Baily races took places last Thursday and with nearly 700 runners competing it was one of, if not the biggest schools' running event in the country.

The senior boys started the season in great form, winning the overall team trophy. The senior girls' team also made the podium, with a very good third place finish in a competitive race. Both our inter teams, full of new runners, showed much promise for the rest of the season.

Notable performers were Harry H, who won the senior boys' race (running 5.6km in a time of 20mins, 59 secs!) – blowing away the opposition. Lizzie F looks set to continue where she left off last season, with an excellent fifth place finish, and a time of 18mins, 50secs over 4.2km. Emily S had an excellent and hard-fought race coming second, setting an outstanding time of 16mins 23secs over 4.2km against some of the best runners in the county. Freddie B, after his success at Nationals last year, looks set for another strong campaign, starting the season with a 10th placed finish.

Well done also to some of our new runners: Freddie F, Tom W, Izzy L, Fiona M, Philip N, Zac D and Wilf W.

An enormous thank you must go to all the cross country staff for managing such a vast event and especially Mike Kearney as Race Director, and Rob Froud for setting a super course.
