Kayakers win at National Schools Championships third year running

The National Schools Kayak Championships 2017 were held on Sunday 19 November on the Thames at Reading.

There are three events, the 500 metre sprint, the 200 metre sprint and the 15km marathon. All our teams performed exceptionally well in the sprints with James L and Archie OS making it to the semi-final. However, the main focus of the day is the marathon. With the teams warmed up and ready to go, a mass start saw over 50 boats head down the Thames.

In very favourable conditions, the four Bryanston boats gave it their all. James L and Archie OS crossed the line in 5th place, Lula P and Felix H crossed in 9th place, with Will E, Finnbhar W, Minglin L and Ollie S not far behind!

Lula and Felix were just 28 seconds off winning the mixed boat category. However, the strength of the team ensured that Bryanston brought home the Marathon Team Trophy for the third year in a row with a combined time of four hours and 45 minutes, just four minutes quicker than Kimbolton in 2nd place. Strong competition from Kimbolton, Blundell's and Langley School meant this was a hard fought win indeed. Well done to you all.
