Bryanston's science department announces competition winners

Over the Easter holidays Bryanston’s science department held three competitions for pupils which included The Great Chemistry Menu (chemistry competition), Wildlife Photography (biology competition) and The Best Paper Aeroplane (physics competition).

Bryanston’s science teachers have been busy assessing the entries and are pleased to now be able to reveal the winners in each category…

The Great Chemistry Menu
Winner: Teagan G
Runner-up: Amy C

The chemistry teachers challenged pupils to get inventive and plan, design, execute and evaluate a menu. Teagan was crowned MasterChemist for her vegan restaurant menu which featured crispy kothimbir vadi for starter, creamy coconut lentil curry for main and vegan chocolate mousse for dessert.

Arthur E. Grosser once said ‘When we decode a cookbook, every one of us is a practising chemist. Cooking is really the oldest, most basic application of physical and chemical forces to natural materials.’

Lewis B's competition entry

The physics teachers challenged pupils to create a paper aeroplane and submit a video demonstrating the grace of flight, the length of flight, as well as the design and presentation of the plane. Charlie F was awarded first place for his graceful flight of 19.5m.

Nick Welford, Head of Science at Bryanston, commented: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the pupils that entered. It was hard to choose the winners of each competition as we had so many good entries.”
