Pupils head to MINI factory for D&T and business trip
This week pupils in C, led by Mr Mills & Mr Leigh, took part in a combined D&T and business trip to the MINI factory in Oxford.
During their visit pupils were fascinated to see how the MINI is made; from the fully automated assembly of the chassis¹ press-formed components, its journey through the paint shop and onto the more labour-intensive final assembly and testing.
Pupils learned that it takes just 26-28 hours for a car to be produced and that MINI builds and distributes 1,000 cars a day to 108 countries around the world. Seeing the cars being made to order, viewing the JIT (Just In Time) production and precision robotic engineering was a memorable and impressive experience for everyone.
Pupils also visited the adjoining MINI museum, which offered an insight into the history and production of this iconic, classic British-designed car.
