Bryanston Cricketers visit Somerset County Cricket Club

On Friday 4 December 13 members of the Bryanston 1st XI cricket team made their inaugural visit to Somerset County Cricket Club.

During their visit the Bryanston cricketers were able to make full use of the outstanding training facilities in Somerset's Centre of Excellence with a session centred around batting against spin bowling. Batsmen tested their skills against Somerset's state-of-the-art "Merlin Bowling Machine", and enjoyed expert coaching and guidence from Somerset coach Pete Sanderson, who has previously visited Bryanston at the start of the last season.

Bryanston's Master i/c Cricket, Simon Turrill, and Director of Coaching, Phil Norton, were able to meet and set up links with Steve Snell, the Director of the Somerset Cricket Academy.

After the two-hour practical session, the squad went on a tour of the players' pavilion, including the inside the first team changing room- a great privilege! Having stood next to Chris Gale's seat and picked up a few of Marcus Trescothick's bats, the final session of the visit was held in the Somerset 1st team meeting room, where Pete encouraged the players to investigate both the tactical and psychological lessons learned from the practical session.

A good time was had by all and we are delighted to hear Somerset would like to welcome us back for a follow up session next term. Thanks must go to Pete Sanderson and Somerset CCC for their hospitality, but most of all to Phil Norton for arranging the visit.
