Bryanston pupils prepare to Swim the Solent to raise funds for Level Water

Eleven members of Bryanston’s Swim Squad, consisting of C through to A2 pupils, are preparing to do an individual swim across the Solent in October.

The date has been set for Saturday 16 October with a reserve date of Sunday 17 October. The 5-7km swim (dependent on tide and time) starts at 12:30 (13:30 on the Sunday reserve date) and will take approximately 1hr and 45 minutes.

The swimming squad have been going to various locations for open water swimming training, including Weymouth, Chapman’s Pool and Studland. The Solent swim in October is set to raise funds for Level Water, a charity that uses swimming to help children with disabilities and provides one-to-one swimming lessons. Head of Swimming Richard Johnson commented: “This would be a massive achievement and an amazing milestone for a squad that started just under three years ago.”

Swim Squad Captain Fiona M commented: “We wanted to choose a charity that all of us are passionate about, and one where we can see the difference that we make. We all love swimming so much and it would be great to give children who need that extra bit of help the attention they deserve, not only to learn a skill for life that they might grow a passion for, but also to gain confidence in everything else that they do.”

The pupils involved also delivered a successful assembly to the whole school last week to encourage further support. You can follow and show your support on Instagram @BrySolentSwim.
