B pupils attend public speaking workshops
As part of the B activities week, six B pupils chose to attend a public speaking workshop, run by Bryanston teacher Ms Quarrell and Julia Ward from 'Articulacy UK'.
The aim of the workshop was to prepare pupils for a Grade 4 English Speaking Board assessment in 'Speech to Connect' by the end of the week.
One element of the assessment was to complete a biographical talk (subjects included Sylvia Plath, Nicholas Winton and Steve McQueen, among others), introduce and recite a poem, and read a selected passage from a favourite novel.
After a fun and exhausting week, during which the pupils worked very hard, the assessment took place on Friday. They all performed brilliantly, and Ms Quarrell and the pupils were all delighted with their results – all six candidates gained the top grade of Distinction.
