A3 pupils reach semi-finals of the Student Investor Challenge

A team of A3 Bryanston pupils have made the semi-finals of the Student Investor Challenge, a national competition run by The London Institute of Banking & Finance.

'Gucci Gang' comprising A3 pupils Coco Z, Alice L, Alex F and Zander M.

The Student Investor Challenge is an online investment simulation, helping pupils increase their understanding of how stock markets work and hone their investment skills by investing virtual money on the London Stock Exchange.

Sixteen teams from across all Bryanston’s year groups entered the competition and one team has made the semi-finals. ‘Gucci Gang,’ comprising A3 pupils Zander M, Coco Z, Alex F and Alice L, had three months to invest £100,000 of virtual money on the live stock market, the aim being to make the largest return. Gucci Gang is one of 500 teams to get through from over 9,000 competing teams.

Nicholas Payne, Business and Economics Teacher at Bryanston, commented: “It’s an amazing achievement to make the semi-finals from over 9,000 national and foreign teams, and Gucci Gang should be very proud. The team will now have a month to make as much profit on the stock market for a chance to compete in the final at their headquarters in London.

“The Student Investor Challenge is a fantastic way to engage our pupils in how the finance sector works and an opportunity to use their acquired business knowledge. I have been very impressed with how Bryanston pupils have continually researched and reviewed their investment decisions, to ensure that they maximise their returns. Many congratulations to those that have made the semi-final – invest wisely and good luck!”
