Bryanston pupil awarded prestigious Arkwright Scholarship

A3 pupil Lara-Marie P is the latest Bryanston pupil to be awarded the prestigious Arkwright Scholarship.

Lara-Marie was nominated by her design & technology teachers on account of her impressive attainment and commitment to the subject. This, combined with her determination to follow a career in automotive engineering, impressed the Arkwright Trust, who promote technical design and engineering careers for 16-year olds.

Lara continues to study design & technology as part of the IB programme and is a member of the design team that is developing next season’s Greenpower racing car, SPN 3.

Head of Design & Technology Chris Mills commented: “We would like to congratulate Lara-Marie. It’s an amazing achievement and one that’s especially pleasing this year as far fewer scholarships have been awarded due to the lack of funding caused by the pandemic. Lara’s scholarship has been funded by the Eranda Rothschild Foundation.”

The Arkwright Trust is a charitable organisation that ‘aims to nurture future leaders in engineering, computing and technical design’. It has a reputation as being ‘the most prestigious scholarship scheme of its type in the UK’. The exhaustive selection process involves a detailed application, a challenging design engineering exam and an interview which requires pupils to demonstrate their ambitions to pursue a career in engineering.

Bryanston’s Design & Technology Department has witnessed a steady flow of Arkwright award winners since 2006 when it was recognised as ‘supporting Arkwright’s vision in encouraging and stimulating high ability students to take up engineering and technological careers’.
