Dancers Bring the Magic of Oz to the Stage

2 March 2026

Last weekend, Coade Hall was transformed into the magical world of Oz as the school’s Nova Dance Company and dancers from across Bryanston presented the dance production No Place Like Home.

Inspired by the beloved story of Dorothy, the show followed her journey after a tornado sweeps her away from home to the Land of Oz. Along the Yellow Brick Road she meets the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion, faces the Wicked Witch, and ultimately discovers that the strength she was searching for had been within her all along.

The production involved more than 90 pupils from prep through to senior school, creating a dazzling performance that showcased impressive stage presence and a wide range of dance styles including Street, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap and Ballet.

From lively street numbers to elegant ballet routines, the dancers demonstrated the breadth of Bryanston’s dance training. The show featured a mix of solo performances and group pieces, all enhanced by a spectacular set designed and built by the Coade Hall team.

Leading the production were members of the Nova Dance Company, Bryanston’s elite ensemble of 15 to 18-year-old dancers who audition annually. Guest choreographers and performers Tanesha Bannerman-Williams, Elliot Lucas and Theo McKenzie-Hayton worked closely with the company to create several standout pieces.

Special recognition was given to Lizzy O for her exceptional performance as Dorothy, who expertly mastered every dance style featured in the show. Head of Dance Samantha O’Neill praised her dedication, saying: “Lizzy’s commitment to the role was remarkable. She brought such energy, versatility and presence to the stage, and her performance truly reflected the strength of dance talent we have here at Bryanston.”

The production’s atmosphere was further elevated by the technical expertise behind the scenes, from the Coade Hall technical team to the dance captains, A3 show organisers, and music production teams. All lighting and sound were operated by Bryanston pupils, supported by a dedicated pupil stage crew.

Dance teachers Samantha O’Neill, Gemma Davis, Matty Matthews and Katie-Rose Williams also played key roles in choreographing and supporting the performers throughout the process.

Reflecting on the success of the show, Head of Dance Samantha Neill said: “This production has been an incredible showcase of the pupils’ dedication and passion. Their technique and confidence on stage continue to grow each year, and it has been wonderful to see them push themselves to such a high standard.”
