Trinity Laban String Professors Inspire Young Musicians at Bryanston

10 November 2025

Bryanston was delighted to welcome Nic Pendlebury, Head of Strings at Trinity Laban, and his team of distinguished string professors on Friday 7 November for an inspiring day of masterclasses, rehearsals and performance.

The day culminated in an exceptional evening concert which opened with five Trinity professors performing selected movements from Peter Warlock’s Capriol Suite. This was followed by a beautifully refined performance of the first movement of Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 1 by Bryanston pupils, showcasing impressive ensemble skills and musical maturity.

The programme continued with a solo performance by Trinity double bass professor Chris West, before violin professors Matthew Denton and Roman Mints, captivated the audience with a brilliantly characterful performance of Alfred Schnittke’s Moz-Art for Two Violins.

The final work of the evening brought together 53 pupils from 17 schools, including Bryanston, performing alongside all the Trinity professors under the direction of Nic Pendlebury in a magnificent rendition of Dag Wirén’s Serenade for Strings. Seeing so many young string players performing at such a high level was both uplifting and truly memorable.

Pupil feedback on the day was overwhelmingly positive: “I was inspired by people around me.”  “I received really insightful advice on how to improve my performance.”

Bryanston extends its warmest thanks to Trinity Laban, and to the many teachers and schools involved, for making this remarkable day of music possible.

The Bryanston Trinity Laban partnership offers scholarships to string pupils entering the school’s Sixth Form who wish to pursue a pathway to undergraduate study at Trinity Laban. Additionally, the Trinity Laban String Award is offered to advanced string players competing in the Bryanston String Competition.
