Congratulations to OB, Amadea Dazeley-Gaist (Pk ’19) on her appointment as Principal Horn with the RSNO.
Following an extensive process of audition and trial, she will officially begin her new position at the start of the 2025/26 Season. During her trial period, she has already taken part in a wide range of RSNO activity, including critically acclaimed performances of Mahler’s Symphony No. 9 and Mozart’s Requiem in the RSNO’s 2024/25 Season, as well as concerts in Ayr, Lanark and Cromarty.
Graduating in 2024 from the Royal College of Music, this marks Amadea’s first permanent position in a professional symphony orchestra. She has performed with prestigious orchestras across the UK and is a distinguished soloist, most recently appearing with the London Mozart Players in Richard Strauss’ Horn Concerto No. 1. Her performance in the Mahler with the RSNO earlier this year was hailed by reviewer Keith Bruce as ‘one of the star soloists of the night’. She will formally take up her position this month.
On her appointment, Amadea said, “Were it not for Bryanston, I would not be where I am now. I am so grateful to the Music Department for spotting my potential as a musician and offering me a sixth form music scholarship. At Bryanston I learned a host of new skills and consolidated the ones I already had. Opportunities to play and sing were vast and varied, and I participated in many ensembles performing different genres. It was hugely educational and great fun.
“By the end of my two years at Bry, I had reached the level I needed to get a place at the Royal College of Music, one of the best music colleges in the world, to study the French horn. At the RCM, my exponential trajectory, that had begun at Bryanston, continued, and I am now, within less than one year of graduating with a Masters in Music Performance, proud and thrilled to be the newly appointed principal horn of the RSNO.”
Xavier Iles, Director of Music at Bryanston School, added, “We are immensely proud of Amadea’s achievement. Her dedication, artistry, and musical excellence were evident here at Bryanston, and it is wonderful to see her talent recognised at the highest level. This appointment is richly deserved and a source of great inspiration to our pupils.”
