Pupils Get a Firsthand Look at Cutting-Edge Manufacturing

16 January 2026

Earlier this week, 42 Business and Design & Technology pupils enjoyed a fantastic visit to the BMW MINI Production Plant in Oxford, providing an excellent opportunity to see real-world manufacturing and link classroom learning to industry.

Pupils toured the factory and observed the spectacular, robotically automated production systems used to assemble MINI vehicles. The speed and precision of the robotics were impressive, clearly demonstrating how advanced technology ensures efficiency and high-quality output. Pupils were particularly interested in the high-tech production cell, where multiple processes were seamlessly integrated along the production line.

The visit also gave valuable insight into just-in-time production systems, showing how components are delivered exactly when required to reduce waste and improve efficiency. This helped reinforce key business concepts such as lean manufacturing, supply chain management and cost control.

Overall, the visit was highly engaging and educational. Special thanks go to Mrs Ings, Mr Mills, Mr Beales and Mr Bray for their support in making the trip such a success.
