We were delighted to welcome Johnnie Liverman (C ‘17) and current parent Ed Carrell to Bryanston for an engaging careers sessions looking behind-the-scenes at the multi-billion-pound superyacht sector this week.
Pupils learnt about the various career pathways and opportunities within the industry that power the world’s most glamorous vessels, from designing and crewing to broking, chartering and selling superyachts. Johnnie, now a broker with leading firm Cecil Wright, told pupils about his personal journey, with work experience placements helping him secure his current role. Both Johnnie and Ed provided an inside look at different facets of the business, sharing insights into the balance between the day-to-day hard graft as well as the glamour of the industry.
It was inspiring to hear Johnnie describe how he applies his Bryanston education, particularly his communication skills, in building and managing client relationships as a broker. He also emphasised how valuable his connections through Beyond Bryanston have been in supporting his career so far. Ed was able to share insights from the recruitment perspective, and together they underscored a key career lesson: be proactive, keep pursuing opportunities, and build meaningful connections. They both stressed the importance of persistence and networking, reminding pupils that a “no” may often just mean “not yet.”
A huge thank you to Johnnie and Ed for their time and valuable insights.
