Prep Boarding Ends Half Term on a High with 80s Roller Disco Extravaganza

14 October 2025

It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached the end of week six. What an incredible half term it has been so far in the boarding house and this week has certainly been one of the busiest yet. We’ve now welcomed 47 different children into boarding this term alone, which is fantastic and a real testament to how many children are embracing the opportunities that boarding life provides.

Throughout the week, the boarders have taken part in a wide range of exciting activities. We’ve had a Nerf gun battle in the Sports Hall, badminton matches, plenty of time enjoying the adventure playground and lawn games, and even a competitive table football tournament. The children have continued their beautiful poppy making for Remembrance, and we’ve also enjoyed time in the Senior School pool, followed by arcade games and the ever-popular Sunday brunch. A visit to the Senior School café added to the weekend fun, and there were smiles all round from start to finish.

However, the highlight of the week has to be our 80s-themed Roller Disco on Friday evening, an unforgettable night for everyone involved. With 37 boarders in the house (mainly from Years 7 and 8, joined by some of our regulars from other year groups), the energy was electric. The children dressed up in full 1980s style, complete with neon sweatbands, glow sticks, and face paint. We enjoyed classic 80s tunes, laughter, and some brilliantly adapted roller-skating party games, including musical bumpsmusical statues, and a fiercely contested roller limbo

The photos are wonderful, but they barely capture the fun and atmosphere of the evening. A huge thank you must go to the kitchen staff, who catered for such a large group with their usual warmth and efficiency, and to our housekeeping team, who worked tirelessly to prepare the additional beds and tidy up after the festivities. My thanks also go to the boarding staff, who fully embraced the theme and helped make the evening so memorable. It was great to have our Head, Mr Floyd, join in the fun, complete with neon face paint and 80s sweatbands!

Boarding continues to be a wonderful opportunity for pupils to build independence, friendships, and confidence, and it’s been fantastic to see so many of them embracing this experience so wholeheartedly.

If any parents would like to learn more about boarding, please don’t hesitate to contact me at [email protected]. I’d also be delighted to offer a tour of the house if you’d like to see what life in Booker House is all about.

Looking ahead, we’re already preparing for our next special event – the Year 3 and 4 Sleepover Night, which will take place in just a few weeks’ time.
