National Storytelling Week at Bryanston Prep was a vibrant celebration of imagination, creativity and the joy of reading, enjoyed by all children from Nursery through to Year 8.
Throughout the week, the school buzzed with excitement as pupils immersed themselves in stories in a variety of engaging ways. It was a pleasure to see children completely absorbed in reading during our DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) sessions, as well as through our much-loved Buddy Reading activities, where pupils shared stories together and inspired one another. It was wonderful to see relationships developing over sharing a story together. A special thank you to some of the Sixth Form Prefects who came and read with our Year 3 pupils too.
Lessons across the school were thoughtfully planned to bring stories to life. Children wrote their own creative stories, acted out well-known tales, completed book reviews and explored literature through discussion, drama and music. These activities developed creativity, confidence and a strong engagement with reading.
A particular highlight of the week was ‘Books at Bedtime’, which proved to be a great success. Pupils loved the cosy, relaxed atmosphere, and it was wonderful to see teachers sharing their favourite stories too and modelling their own enjoyment of reading.
Another standout event was the illustrator workshop led by Mrs Floyd. Pupils gained a fascinating insight into the creative process behind illustrations, learning how images enhance storytelling and bringing characters and narratives to life through art.
The week concluded with our House Music competition which had a Storytelling theme, bringing the week to a memorable and celebratory close.
National Storytelling Week clearly demonstrated the strength of our reading culture at Bryanston Prep, reinforcing the importance of storytelling and leaving pupils motivated, inspired and eager to continue their reading journey.
