Exceptional ESB Public Speaking Results

At the weekend a small group of Cs and Bs completed their English Speaking Board assessments in Public Speaking, and achieved exceptional results.

Public Speaking runs as an ECA, and throughout the Autumn term these pupils met weekly with Ms Quarrell to develop a range of skills in preparation for this assessment. C pupils (Grade 4) presented a biographical talk, then read from a novel and recited a poem or monologue of their choice.

Our B pupils also presented a talk, this time based on an issue that interests them (for example the impact of Palm Oil production, the US-Mexico border wall and women's protests in Iran), they recited a poem and also read out an extract from a speech made by a public figure.

Congratulations to the following pupils for their exceptional ESB Public Speaking results:

Grade 4

Oscar V

Izzy J

Amélie M

Aurelia D

Grade 5

Lucy G

Isis A

Gee A

Ms Quarrell commented: "What makes ESB different from other public speaking exams is that an integral part of it is how well the candidates support and interact with each other, necessitating them listening to and engaging with each other’s presentations. They always come away having learnt lots, feeling more confident in their skills and claiming that it is the most enjoyable exam they have ever done.

"There are five possible grades for this assessment, and all our candidates achieved one of the top two grades, so they can be very proud of their efforts. Well done all!"
