Gold Duke of Edinburgh's award
The Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award is widely respected for the educational benefits that it brings to its participants. Through the various elements of the programme candidates are presented with opportunities to develop independence and self-motivation, as well as planning and decision-making skills.
Pupils enrol onto the DofE programme at the start of A3 (year 12). Walking expeditions take place in the Brecon Beacons and in Snowdonia.
The DofE programme's strength lies in broadening the education of its candidates and offering opportunities not available in the classroom. Universities and employers hold the Gold level of the Award in very high regard, giving holders an advantage in a competitive world.
Bronze Duke of EdinBurgh's AWARD
The Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a great introduction to the DofE and encourages pupils to become self sufficient, motivated and adventurous.
As well as the expedition element, pupils also complete three further sections; volunteering, physical, and skill. The DofE programme is designed to encourage pupils to take responsibility for themselves, in terms of planning, organising and completing the different activities. It broadens horizons and gives pupils the opportunity to try new activities they might not otherwise have tried.
Pupils enrol onto the award in C (year 10) and walking expeditions take place in the surrounding Dorset countryside.
