Bryanston raises £3,000 for Blandford Food Bank through 10km charity walk initiative

Bryanston has raised £3,000 for Blandford Food Bank thanks to a 10km charity walk initiative opened up to on-site staff and the wider school community.

The School has been doing a whole school charity walk for eight years in a row and didn’t want this year’s situation to stop the walk. On-site staff at Bryanston enjoyed a 10km socially distanced (‘lockdown version’) walk on Sunday 26 April in the spirit of the usual event. All members of staff that completed the 10km walk donated £10 each to Blandford Food Bank. Click here to see Bryfilm’s video from the walk.

In addition to this, Bryanston opened up the 10km charity walk challenge to the wider Bryanston community – to include pupils, parents, staff and OBs, all encouraged to take on the challenge (within government guidelines) and raise money for a local charity of the individual’s choosing or by donating to Blandford Food Bank via the School’s JustGiving page.

Hannah Fearnley, Hsm of Greenleaves House, commented: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has donated to Blandford Food Bank. They have huge shortages during this challenging time and are trying to deliver hundreds of food parcels to people during the crisis as well as distributing healthy, balanced meals for those in need in the local community.

“Despite being separated by this virus, it’s brilliant to see that so many people have joined in, taken on the challenge and united in raising money for good causes. Our JustGiving page will be closed by the end of the week.”

Thank you for joining in!

Further to opening up the charity walk initiative to the wider Bryanston community, the response has been fantastic! Here are just some of the people that have shared their walks with us…

We enjoyed a walk through Primrose Hill and Regents Park, sidestepping stubborn geese and avoiding joggers. Thank you for holding this event remotely!

We completed and really enjoyed our walk, following a different route that was longer than our normal walk. Brilliant to be able to support Blandford Food Bank. Unfortunately, we forgot to take a photo until about 10 steps from home!

I chose to run the 10km instead and enjoyed doing 19 loops around the school grounds. My first 10km run in ages!

Beth Rodford, PE Teacher at Bryanston

A lovely loop of Hod and Hambledon Hill for my 10km contribution to the Bryanston challenge - as well as getting further along the south coast for the Ten Tors alternative challenge!

We enjoyed a dawn walk to Melbury Down to watch the sun rise from behind ‘the caterpiller’, the row of trees you can see in the photo. Aside from seven hares, we had the place to ourselves. Thank you to everyone who has helped to keep the Whole School Walk tradition going in support of this important cause.
