Bryanston presents the inaugural Richard Hall Rugby Award for excellence, character and attitude

Going forwards the trophy will be awarded annually to a pupil that displays excellence, character and attitude, and is named after former Bryanston Head Boy and 1st XV captain, wartime rugby international and Surgeon-Lieutenant, Richard Leslie Hall.

Will F has displayed immense character, effort and respect throughout his time at Bryanston, maximising the opportunities available to him, both sporting and academic. His hard work has seen him thrive. Will was rewarded earlier this season with selection for Bath Academy U18 during this year’s Academy League, as well as being named co-captain of the Bryanston 7s team.

Scott Hobson, Head of Rugby at Bryanston, commented: “Congratulations to Will F for being presented with this esteemed rugby award. His positive attitude makes him the perfect first recipient of an award in recognition of such an exemplary Old Bryanstonian.”

During Richard’s time at Bryanston, he became captain of rugby, captain of boats and Head Boy. He was one of the earliest Bryanstonians (1929-34) based in Connaught House and went on to Bart's Hospital where he trained to be a surgeon. He captained the hospital XV and went on to play for England during wartime. As an inspirational rugby player, he also played for Middlesex, Richmond and the Barbarians.

Richard was killed in action aged 29 in 1944 as Surgeon-Lieutenant in a warship on convoy duty.
