Sports Department challenges Bryanston community to cover the distance from Bryanston to Tokyo
In February our Sports Department introduced a new community-wide challenge: #Bry2Tokyo.
Pupils, former pupils, staff and parents were invited to collectively cover the distance from Bryanston to Tokyo (9,693km) between 10-24 February. Walking, running, skiing, riding, cycling, rowing – whatever the exercise, it all counted towards the final total.
By Friday 19 February the target was reached and we had effectively arrived in Tokyo. With the challenge deadline having previously been set as Wednesday 24 February, the Sports Department decided to move the goalpost and challenged the Bryanston community to get back to Bryanston in the remaining six days.
By the end of the challenge, the Bryanston community covered 19,386km from Bryanston to Tokyo and back again, plus an extra 4,216km.
Participants were encouraged to help cover the distance by sharing a screenshot of their route or distance covered on social media using the hashtag #Bry2Tokyo or by emailing their totals to the Sports Department. Staff could also submit their totals using the Bryanston Staff Strava Club.
Director of Sport Alex Fermor-Dunman commented: “The aim of the challenge was to give pupils a greater sense of togetherness and to encourage a ‘team spirit’, just as if they were in School. We wanted the Bryanston community to get active, stay safe and clock up the kilometres. The target was smashed, and we’d like to say thank you to everyone who contributed.”
