A preparation for Higher Education

In the sixth form at Bryanston, pupils learn to take an even greater ownership of their own learning and development than in the junior years.  One-to-one work review sessions with subject teachers, known as correction periods, and independent learning, or assignment periods, form a crucial part of a Bryanston sixth former’s timetable. Pupils experience a similar variety of teaching formats to those available at university, and are exceptionally well prepared for undergraduate work.

Our aim is to provide a range of subjects and qualifications, supported by a strong enrichment programme to enable pupils to choose the right path through their final two years at school. That is the thinking behind offering both IB and A level subjects, which build towards either the IB Diploma or a strong set of A level grades.

Both routes not only develop the subject-specific knowledge and skills which are a gateway to undergraduate study, but require organisation and creative thinking that transfer successfully to employment. The enrichment programme balances academic work with engagement in topics drawn from many different disciplines. By the end of the sixth form pupils will be equipped with the skills, knowledge and enthusiasm to tackle the academic demands of university study with confidence.

A Levels

There is a fairly free choice from the following subjects at A level.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme suits pupils who find the A level subject choice too limiting.

Academic Enrichment Programme

During their time in the sixth form, pupils are encouraged to develop a full and well-rounded academic and co-curricular profile to show that they are much more than just the grades they receive.

Bryanston is a vibrant family full of interesting individuals, in which the sense of mutual respect between all is both evident and strong. One-to-one attention for the individual is at the heart of creating this and of all we do at Bryanston.

Learning to Learn

With its particular focus on the individual, the Bryanston model aims, above all, to ensure that a pupil at 18 is a more mature learner than at 13. We want our pupils to be able both to learn independently and to thrive upon it. In order to deliver this, over the course of their time at school, teachers and pupils work together to develop the skills required for a successful career both at Bryanston and beyond.

Boarding Life

Boarding is not simply about educating children away from home; at Bryanston, boarding is what allows us to provide a depth and breadth of opportunity for every child. Alongside an excellent education in the classroom, boarding affords extra time and space to explore an exceptional range of activities right here on campus, enabling every pupil to discover and develop their individual talents and to become specialists in their areas of strength.
