Confirmation Service
On Sunday 8 May at the school church of St Martin's, the Bishop of Sherborne, the Rt Revd Karen Gorham, confirmed 42 Bryanston pupils.
The church was packed with parents, godparents families and friends some of whom had travelled from Australia, Singapore, Indonesia, Monaco, Spain and France to be there. The Amaris Choir led the service and sang motets by Thomas Tallis, Len White and John Rutter. The hymns We Have a Gospel to Proclaim, The King of Love My Shepherd Is, Christ Triumphant, and Tell Out My Soul were sung with great enthusiasm. The Head, Sarah Thomas, read the first lesson from the Acts of the Apostles and the Chaplain read the Gospel from John. The organist, Mr Will Ings, Assistant Director of Music, played Fantasia in G BWV 572 by J S Bach as the voluntary and Widor’s Toccata for the recessional. The pupils, aged between 13 and 18, had been prepared by the Chaplain every week in the spring term, in small friendship groups. It was a service full of hope and joy.
The Chaplain, Canon Andrew Haviland, said ''This service was a real celebration. The pupils decided that now is the time to stand up for themselves and say, 'Yes' to the message of Jesus. In its simplest form we are asked to love God and love our neighbour. They made public their decision to continue their spiritual discernment with open and enquiring minds. May God bless them on their journey of faith and give us grace to support and pray for them.”
