Bryanston pupils surpass their fundraising target for PumpAid

This year’s A2 Charity Weekend, organised by the Heads of School and prefects, was a tremendous success.

An excellent assembly on Friday set the scene for a very positive A2 Charity Weekend in aid of PumpAid, a charity that runs water-based projects in rural Malawi. The monies raised over the weekend will go towards providing access to safe water, hygienic latrines, and lessons and training in good hygiene behaviour for pupils at a preschool, as well as building a pump in a rural community that will provide approximately 240 people with clean water.

Throughout the weekend there was a range of different fundraising events and activities, including an art exhibition, sport tournaments and challenges, and cream teas.  This year’s silent auction raised a record amount and the promises auction was also well supported. The special lunch for A2 parents returned for its second year and proved to be very popular again. Parents, pupils and staff supported all the events with enthusiasm and enjoyment.

One of the highlights of the weekend was the premiere performance of Stream of Life, a song written and performed by Bryanston pupil Adam FW especially for PumpAid and the A2 Charity Weekend. Watch the video of the song here.

The Heads of School set themselves the challenging target of raising £12,000. Initial calculations suggest that the actual amount raised is likely to be between £15,000 and £16,000.

Thank you to all the parents and friends who donated lots to the silent auction and those who bid for them, attended the weekend’s events or simply gave a donation to PumpAid.

A large number of pupils in A2 contributed a great deal to the weekend and its success, and it is always difficult highlighting individuals in what was a fine team effort. However, particular mention must go to the following for their overall contribution: Immy A, Caia F, Luke J, Harry M, Bronte LM, Ella B, Adam FW, Alex CM and Luca B.

Of course, most credit goes to the Heads of School, Sam W and Nancy S, for their overall management of the event and for their enormous drive and energy in delivering a fantastic weekend for everyone to enjoy, as well as raising a superb sum of money. Well done!

You can still support the A2 Charity Weekend by donating to PumpAid through the Heads of School’s JustGiving page.
