Gold Duke of Edinburgh practice walking expedition
Over Easter 35 A3 pupils took part in the practice walking expedition to the Brecon Beacons in South Wales.
The trip was accompanied by Mr Curry (Head of Outdoor Education), Mr Haysom, Mr Magaz and Mrs Fazakerely. There were seven qualified mountain instructors with the team as well.
The pupils have been planning the training and practice expeditions themselves in the run up to this trip away. In their six teams, they spent the first day getting to grips with the navigation required for walking in the hills. After a good day out, the teams returned to the bunkhouse and prepared for the three-day practice expedition. We were lucky to have wonderful sunshine for most of the trip, although it was cold and windy on the top of the mountains! The whole expedition ran very smoothly, with every pupil showing a desire to learn and be involved.
It was a pleasure working with such a positive team, even with such large numbers. We are now looking ahead to the assessed expedition at the start of the summer holidays, travelling to North Wales to enjoy four days walking through the Snowdonia National Park.
