Percussionists perform lively and varied concert

On Monday 1 May, Bryanston's percussionists came together for this year's percussion concert.

The Steel Band opened proceedings with a traditional Caribbean tune, Yellow Bird. Other groups included the Senior Percussion Quartet, who performed two pieces: the first, an un-pitched quartet composition by Peter Birkby, featured Rose H, Henry B, Katie B and Theo B. The same group minus Rose, then played a Victor Salvo snare drum trio entitled The Three Foxes. First time performers included Tom B on the timpani, Charlie B with a snare drum duet piece and Ruth P on marimba, hot on the heels of her recent Grade 5 exam. The Percussion Group ended the show with an exciting and punchy performance of Will R's arrangement of The Pirates of the Caribbean, with additional support from Naomi M on timpani.

Special mention must be given to Rose H and Henry B for their combined leadership of the Percussion Section this year. They performed a lovely marimba duet together, entitled Bayerische Ländler, to mark the end of their partnership and of five years of excellent service.

The concert was highly varied, in terms of both experience and ability and of style and genre. Well done to all performers.
