Audience left tapping their feet after Christmas Concert

The Christmas Concert took place in the Elder Concert Hall on Friday 2 December at 8.15pm

Before the concert, drinks were served and the Flute Group (under the direction of Elena Jackson), Lotte T as a solo singer and the String Quartet performed in the Standage Chamber Music Room to set the mood for what was to follow in the concert hall.

The magnificent Concert Band, conducted by Director of Music, Duncan Emerson, began the concert with Chicken Run by John Powell & Harry Gregson-Williams, arranged by P. Murtha. This piece was enormous fun and enabled the upper wind players to use kazoos! They continued with a repeat performance of Yellow from Colors by Bert Appermont arranged and rescored by D Emerson with Rory H as the trombone soloist. They finished the set of three performances with A Jazzy Christmas arranged by J Vinson to start the Christmas spirit.

The Steel Band, coached by Richard Baker, followed with a fun and energetic performance of Cheeseburger in Paradise by J Buffett. The impressive Senior Saxophone Quartet performed Silent Night and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen both arranged by Niehaus. Amaris Choir took to the platform, under the direction of Isabel White, to sing Hold Back the River by James Bay, arranged by Roger Emerson and the upbeat number Christmas Smash Hits. They sang all the music from memory brilliantly and their enjoyment was infectious.

The Dance Band ended the concert with two brilliant numbers conducted by Duncan Emerson and William Ings. Carolina B sang the vocal part with style for You’ve Got A Friend In Me and the Dance Band left everyone tapping their feet to the hugely enjoyable and polished performance of Happy by Williams arranged by Tomaro/Ings.
