Aquinas Trio Concert
On Wednesday 14 January, the Aquinas Trio performed a beautifully crafted programme of piano trios by Saint-Saens and Mendelssohn which quickly lifted our spirits from the dreary and gloomy weather outside.
The renowned trio performed Saint-Saens's Piano trio no 1 in F op 18 followed by Mendelssohn's Piano trio no 2 in C minor op 66.
In the latter piece, their true professionalism was put to the test when the cellist had to ask to borrow a cello for the last movement after the tailpiece snapped. After a small hiatus, the trio returned to the stage unruffled and treated us to the last movement again using a pupil's cello. Many thanks to Ruth Rogers (violin), Katherine Jenkinson (cello) and Martin Cousin (piano) for providing us with such a memorable evening of high drama and lyricism.
