Percussion Concert

On Wednesday 18 March, The Elder Hall hosted the second ever Percussion concert.

The school's Percussionists played singly, in pairs and within a large group, in order to give all of our fantastic new equipment a workout. Henry Beauchamp started the concert with a Xylophone piece from the Grade 2 Syllabus entitled "Rumba", before performing a Caribbean-themed Marimba duet with Rose Hollingbery. Rose also performed a Vibraphone piece with four mallets, taken from the Grade 6 repertoire. Miles Wiltshire, one of our fantastic D percussionists performed Scott Joplin's "Maple leaf rag" on Xylophone, beautifully accompanied by Graham Scott. Felix Fernandez performed one of his Grade 8 drum kit pieces, namely "mind the gaps" and Henry Simm and James Emerson performed Henry Simm's arrangement of the "Sherlock" TV theme on Marimba and Vibraphone. The final Percussion Octet piece, "Overture for Percussion ensemble" by John Beck was undoubtedly the highlight of the evening, including debut performances on Tenor drum by Zac Triay and on Tubular Bells for Lu Simmonds. Well done to all-a great evening.
