Runners give impressive performance at Dorset School Championships

On Thursday we took junior, intermediate and senior cross country teams to the Dorset Schools Champions – a chance to qualify and represent Dorset at the South West Schools Championships in February.

Competition was fierce, as our athletes were running against pupils from some of the top cross country clubs in Dorset. They did not disappoint, and this turned out to be one of the most impressive displays by Bryanston runners for many years.

Our junior girls ran in a very strong field of around 150 runners. Amelia S came in a very encouraging 30th place, then Leah V (58th), followed by Augusta H and Lula P.  At intermediate level, Katia M showed the great progress she has made with a 31st place finish, followed by Martha A (42nd) and Gabriella S (44th).

The senior girls were strong, with our captain, Lizzie F in 13th place, followed by Laura H in 18th, Anoushka T in 19th and Safia W in 20th – all now having a chance to be selected for the Dorset team next month. Polina M and Florentine W completed the group coming just two places behind the others.

The boys were dominant – with five runners gaining likely selection to the Dorset team with top 10 finishes. Freddie B, donning a Bryanston vest for only the second time, put in a performance of pace and power – holding 6th place from start to finish. Harry H (6th) and Toby K (10th) gained likely qualification at intermediate level as did Thore G (9th) and James R (10th) for the seniors. Harry M waits to see if he will be called up after an excellent 11th place. Tom R, Inigo H, Henry H, Gus G, Josh J, Felix H and Vasily Y all finished strongly to complete a truly memorable day.

Athletes of the match are awarded to Lizzie F and Freddie B.
