mp Simon Hoare visits Bryanston
Despite the snow (and Brexit), A3 Government and Politics pupils welcomed Simon Hoare, MP for North Dorset, to Bryanston on Friday for a question-and-answer session.
Questions began with a close examination of Mr Hoare’s voting record and the group quickly learned that it’s very hard to get one over on an MP. However, the questions asked were probing, eloquent and well-articulated, and all pupils spoke with confidence and clarity.
The pupils have been studying the role and influence of pressure groups in UK democracy this half term, so various questions were asked in relation to the value they add and the relationship between MPs and lobbyists. Questions inevitably moved onto Brexit and it was interesting to receive the view of a Government minister at such an important time in this country’s political history.
It was also very useful for the pupils to be able to apply what they have learned in lessons to a real-life scenario, and they no doubt learned a considerable amount.
The pupils, and staff, are very grateful for the time that Mr Hoare gave to us and look forward to a trip to Parliament in the summer term.
