Art pupils captivated by London Royal Academy Summer Exhibition

On the 15 June A3 pupils enjoyed an inspirational day out to the London Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

The visit marks the beginning of the A2 course, acting as a springboard for pupils to find artists’ work to potentially research for their A2 personal study coursework. The exhibition also gave pupils exposure to a rich and diverse range of contemporary works by fine artists, ceramists and architects.

Amongst the highlights was an 18 metre tall kinetic sculpture by Ron Arad titled Spyre, a wall mounted stag's head, made from coat hangers named Silver Hart by David Mach, and a monumental mixed media painting titled Böse Blumen by Anselm Kiefer. With over 1,200 works on show, there was something for everyone to enjoy; many pupils said that it was the most visually captivating exhibition they had ever been to.
