OB's movie nominated for six awards

OB, writer, producer and director Patrick Makin (Shaftesbury 1986) has written a fun-loving film called Happy Birthday, Toby Simpson.

This feel-good movie has already been nominated for six awards at the British Independent Film Festival (Best Feature, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Music and the British Lion Award for achievement on a low-budget).

Patrick got the idea for the film from his brother, Ed, who has spent many years commuting between London and Newbury. Ed wondered what would happen if he didn't get off the train but instead carried on all the way to the Glastonbury Festival with his suit, tie and briefcase. Of course, as Patrick says, “The film has evolved since then, but that was the spark.”

Happy Birthday, Toby Simpson was originally shown this year at the Bristol Film Festival and the only showing sold out. There will be another opportunity to see it this weekend (Saturday 13 May) when the film will be screened at the Empire Leicester Square at 12pm and I can thoroughly recommend it, if you can get along to see it.

In just a few days from now, Patrick will be travelling to the Cannes Film Festival with this British romantic movie in the hope of finding a distributor for the film. We wish Patrick all the best of luck and hope to see it in our cinemas very soon!
