Cricket fundraising dinner 2017
On Saturday 1 April 2017, just over 90 guests attended Bryanston School for a cricket fundraising dinner in support of Bryanston’s 1st XI cricket team participating in the Sir Garfield Sobers International Cricket Tournament in Barbados this summer, to celebrate the tournament's 30th anniversary.
The dinner was an opportunity for parents, pupils, OBs (including OB cricket group, the Butterflies), staff, former staff, friends and family to come together to raise funds to help support all the boys on the team.
The evening began with a drinks reception in the main hall, where guests were able to browse the exciting prizes that were up for grabs in the raffle and auctions. Overseeing all of this was our compere and auctioneer for the night, and one of England’s cricketing greats, Shaun Udal.
Our guests then moved into Cowley for dinner, where Master i/c Cricket, Simon Turrill, took the opportunity to welcome everyone and grace was led by Butterflies member Guy Bucknell. After a delicious starter and main course provided by the wonderful catering team at Bryanston, Shaun involved all the guests in a game of ‘Heads and Tails’. It was great to see everyone participating and over £700 was raised from this alone.
After dessert, guests enjoyed listening to Shaun interviewing Paul Prichard, Dorset County Cricket Club coach, and Richard Scott, Head Coach of Middlesex County Cricket Club (current county champions). Then it was time for everyone to dig deep as the live auction got underway; and dig deep they did with five lots raising £1,900. The silent and secret auctions were then announced and the raffle was drawn.
The auctions and raffle alone raised over £6,000 and we would like to thank everyone who supported the fundraising dinner so generously. We wish the boys all the best with the tournament in July.
