OB portrayed in film

We recently learned that OB Richard Rampton QC is a key character in the recent BAFTA-nominated film Denial.

The film is based on the book History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier and tells the story of the prominent libel case brought against the author Deborah E Lipstadt and her UK publisher Penguin Books by David Irving. OB Richard Rampton QC, portrayed in the film by Tom Wilkinson, was the barrister defending Deborah E Lipstadt and Penguin Books in the case.

David Irving claimed Deborah Lipstadt had libelled him in her book Denying the Holocaust and in English libel law the burden of proof is on the defendant. Therefore, it was up to Lipstadt’s defence team to prove her claims against the accuser were true, which they achieved successfully.
