Buffaloes' 40th anniversary fundraising dinner
On Saturday 30 March 2019, just under 90 guests attended the Buffaloes' 40th anniversary fundraising dinner to launch a new Rowing Award.
The evening began with a champagne and canapés reception in the main hall, where guests had the chance to browse the exciting auction and raffles prizes, enjoy photos and videos from rowing over the years, and catch up with friends.
Guests then made their way into Cowley for dinner, where the Buffalo Chairman, Anthony Thompson, welcomed everyone and thanked the Buffalo Founder and President, Alan Shrimpton, for all his hard work and support over the last 40 years. Anthony also took a moment to share the Buffaloes and school's vision for the new Rowing Award.
Our compère and auctioneer for the evening was Marc Allum from the BBC Antiques Roadshow. Marc did an excellent job encouraging everyone to dig deep and kept guests entertained. We also enjoyed music from pupils, May P (A3) who sung and played Your Song by Elton John and Midnight Train to Georgia by Gladys Knight on the piano. Freddie F (A2) played first Mendelssohn Songs without words, a piece by Parry called Dolly No.2 and the Eton boating song. We were also joined by four rowing pupils from A3 who sold raffle tickets for a beautiful pair of 18ct gold, pink sapphire earrings with a central diamond. JJ S, Alex A, Ben C and Kit C did a brilliant job and sold £1,400 worth of tickets on the night.
We were delighted to have two GB Olympian rowers join us for the dinner, Heather Stanning OBE and George Nash MBE. After dinner, Marc Allum was joined by Heather and George for a Q&A session, and the highlight of the evening was when they both pulled out their Olympic medals from their jackets to share with the audience.
Everyone enjoyed a fun evening with a delicious three-course dinner and wine. We would like to thank everyone who supported the fundraising dinner so generously and we are delighted to announce we raised £11,455 with donations still coming in.
