Sunday Times Festival of Education

Five Bryanston pupils and three Sarum Academy pupils went to Wellington College on Thursday 18 June to take part in the Sunday Times Festival of Education.

Our hosts, Solutions Inc. set up a challenge-based learning scenario, which had pupils working in groups of eight on the big question - “How should technology change how, when and where we learn?” Over the course of four hours, the pupils used a variety of resources and techniques to analyse data, research the question and produce a presentation, which they then presented on stage at the festival. The Bryanston pupils acquitted themselves very well, and contributed towards exceptional leadership of the groups.

We received some lovely feedback from the organisers of the challenge, who were very impressed with the pupils that took part.

“Being asked by Apple to represent them at this year's Festival of Education was an exciting opportunity.  Working in partnership with a select number of schools, who support our Digital Genius student leadership programme, we would develop a student challenge to run live at the Festival. I could not be more proud of everyone. Every student, teacher, and staff member involved was totally committed. Together we did something incredible. We bought students to the Festival and placed them centre stage. They did not disappoint. All the students were, as I suspected, spectacular. They showed in real time how technology can redefine the way we teach & learn. On returning home, energised yet exhausted, I thought this quote summed it up nicely.  "If you never set yourself unrealistic goals, you will never achieve anything other than mediocrity”. Well I do not do mediocrity and not surprisingly neither do Bryanston.”
