Pupils perform a superb A/B Bands Gig
Head of Percussion, Richard Baker reports on the varied and professional A/B Bands gig which took place at the weekend.
The first few weeks of the autumn term have amazed me. The sheer quantity of rehearsals for this year's A/B Bands gig has been overwhelming and Sunday's show was testament to the pupils' preparation.
The evening saw many debut performances, alongside some of our most experienced performers. The evening started with an awesome solo performance by new A3, Paris S, of the Killers' classic song Mr Brightside. Ossia M also impressed us with a rendition of an Adele song, accompanied by Will E, whilst new A3 pupil Yury S exploded onto the Bryanston music scene as the rhythmic engine for a White Stripes song, namely Fell in love with a girl. Twins Sam E and Simon E knocked us all out with their vocal prowess too, with a tight performance of Black Chandelier by Scottish band Biffy Clyro.
Special mention needs to go to Harry S, who performed the only two original songs of the evening, alongside bandmates Oscar F and Ben S and musical collaborator Daniel L. Poppy and Lotte T, along with Serena F, played a multitude of instruments between them, with Poppy even singing the classic 1980s tune, 99 Red Balloons by Nena, entirely in German!
The evening was rounded off with a spirited performance of the Weather Girls song, It's raining men, delivered by Ottilie and the Machine, the whole band clad entirely in translucent ponchos.
It was an absolute pleasure to be involved with such a varied, tight and professional concert, enhanced by the fabulous Coade Hall crew on light and stage duties, with the awesome Tim Pennells on sound.
Congratulations to all involved. I shan't forget this concert for a very long time.
