The hockey tour to South Africa also included some cricket on day nine, as the girls organised a tournament with a local school to raise money towards a scholarship.
We all had a nice breakfast together before heading to our second charity project and another township.
Together with Oakhill School in Knysna we set up a cricket tournament and the money raised went towards offering a child a scholarship and a chance to move up the cricket programme and perhaps one day play professionally. We met many of the children at the youth club and played games with them, and also gave them footballs, playing kit and toiletries.
We had lunch in the township at our tour guide’s restaurant and then moved on to Oakhill School itself to play our matches. The U16s played first and had a very hard game against a good side. Unfortunately, they lost 1-0 but there was great play from Jess in goal, and the twins Olivia and Tt. In the U18s’ game, again they were very closely matched however fitness was a key component of the match and the girls were beaten 2-1 by a fitter side. Our goal came from Annabelle who had another fantastic game. There were also a lot of emotion at the end, as it was the last game our A2s would have in a Bryanston top, so well done to Val, Immy and Katharine. After both games we were hosted very well by the staff and pupils of Oakhill School and we all hope they will come and visit us in England.
That morning our Bs also received their GCSE results. Well done to Lizzie, Ellie, Charlotte, Annabelle and India.
